Our pledge to Show Up

When you live with mental illness, it can feel like the world slowly disappears around you.

We all have a role to play in tackling mental health stigma. You can help by showing up for people with mental health problems – whether that’s by recognising your own worth, offering kindness and connection to those around you, or by challenging the systems that seem to disappear when the need is greatest.

I commit to showing up by…

  • Being there for people in my life when they’re having a tough time with their mental health – and staying visible, even if they appear more distant.

  • Finding out more about mental illness, and about the stigma and discrimination faced by those who live with it.

  • Challenging language that might be stigmatising to people with mental health problems, including reflecting on my own language.

  • Using my voice and influence to help create a Scotland that doesn’t disappear, by taking actions like signing petitions, contacting politicians, and sharing the Show Up campaign messages.

We believe in a Scotland that shows up for people with mental illness.
